MVP Initiative

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Receiver Chris and Mariah Godwin have pledged $50,000 from their Team Godwin Foundation to their MVP (Most Vulnerable Pets) initiative–a program focused on helping mitigate the impact of natural disasters on our pet population.  The full impacts of Hurricane Helene on animals are just starting to come to light, as disasters such as this too often result in people either deciding or needing to give up their pets due to hardships, including not being permitted in rentals and other temporary housing facilities.

Team Godwin Foundation’s MVP initiative is taking action to help pets and families who either have already been or may yet be impacted by Hurricane Helene. By teaming up with our local partners, such as Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, Team Godwin will provide supplies, volunteers, and other support to not only shelters and rescues, but through community outreach programs to keep shelter intake rates down in hopes that we can protect pets and their families.

Proceeds from our annual Team Godwin Gala will focus heavily on funding the Most Vulnerable Pets initiative, while also supporting our signature second-chance fund to help cover veterinary bills for sick or injured animals.

The Tampa region is facing tremendous and certain damage from incoming Hurricane Milton on the heels of Hurricane Helene. In a matter of weeks Tampa has seen historic storm surge, flooding, displacement and loss of life and will continue to do.

This is a cry for help, not just for two-legged members of our community but for those without a voice. Those reliant on their owners for help. The most vulnerable members. Relief is not enough. Action is needed and that’s what we intend to bring with the MVP initiative.
