Buccaneers wide receiver pledges donation to animal rescue per catch

Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin made a pledge that every time he catches a pass, he donates $50 to his Receptions for Rescue campaign.

This season, Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has an incentive for catching passes on Sundays. For every catch that Godwin makes, he is pledging $50 to rescue dogs. This effort is working with Team Godwin Foundation which aims to provide at-risk children and animals a second chance through advocacy and financial support.

Thousands of cats and dogs are euthanized daily across the United States because they can’t find homes and can’t be supported by shelters. Godwin told The Athletic “A lot of people don’t know [about shelters]. Hopefully, we’re doing what we can to influence people in the right direction, so they can buy in, one dog at a time.”

At this point in time, Godwin has 54 receptions for 766 yards and six touchdowns. Godwin’s 54 receptions currently ranks eighth in the NFL and he is on pace for 108 receptions. If Godwin reached 108 receptions, he would have pledged $5,400 himself. The goal of this campaign for Godwin is to reach $10,000 on the season via donations and receptions.

Right now, the campaign currently sits at $5,088 donated by 54 people. According to the Team Godwin website, Godwin and his girlfriend Mariah DelPercio took interest in rescuing animals after Mariah began volunteering at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay in 2018. Ever since then, the two have fell in love with animals especially dogs.
